Very close to the city of Murcia, there is another of the most renowned and oldest courses: Golf Altorreal. Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots - but you have to play the ball where it lies.

A new concept of “well-being” that goes beyond the physical state of the body. It's about getting the balance between body, mind and the emotions that dominate us. To evade, to disconnect, to take care of ourselves and de-stress...

In order to do this, what better than a SPA treatment. Water, the universal conductor, is also the remedy par excellence for any ailment our body may suffer. Thermal or marine waters, the decision is yours because the Region of Murcia has several of the most relevant spas in the country.

San Pedro’s mud therapy area.

Known as Europe’s largest outdoor SPA, the sea mud therapy area of San Pedro del Pinatar (Mar Menor) has been known since ancient times. It was a place for rest and relaxation attended by the ancient Romans, Arabs, also natives that took advantage of the healing properties of its sea clays.

It is an area of shallow natural pools (saline) whose bottom contains sediments with high levels of minerals deposited for centuries, thus turning the soil at the northern end of the Mar Menor into a clay with therapeutic properties. The high salinity of the water and the long hours of sun have led to the formation of the so-called “sea limos” (mud whose solid and liquid part are separated), very rare and unique for their benefits.

The properties and medicinal quality of these muds are sustained by several studies carried out by the University of Murcia, where the biochemical composition of the Mar Menor water was measured and its high concentration of salinity and mineralization was proved. Therefore, it is considered a highly recommended place to treat health problems and seek the state of wellness. The application of the clay together with the high temperatures of the Mar Menor sea water favor a great thermal conductivity, which is very suitable for treatments of rheumatism, arthritis, inflammatory diseases, wound healing and rehabilitation after bone fractures.

The salt ponds are adapted to access the water in the most comfortable way by means of a series of wooden walkways installed from the shore that enter into the water. In this way it is easy to collect the clays from the bottom, smear your body from head to toes and let them dry in the sun.

This corner of the province of Murcia is lovely. Salty surrounding with the smell of sea. Dreamy sunsets, where the lagoons become mirrors that reflect the amalgam of sunset colors and the sounds of birds create an atmosphere of tranquility, difficult to find in a tourist area. This is how the balance of body and mind is achieved, this is how we achieve the state of wellness.

Archena’s health resort

The sea water in the area is not the only one with recognized therapeutic value.

In the Valley of Ricote, in the interior of the Region, located in a wonderful natural setting, you can find the Archena Health resort. Built on thermal springs with a unique effectiveness, this SPA center offers a large number of treatments that will help you achieve the desired well-being.

Archena’s hot springs emanate from the spring at a temperature of 52.50 Cº. They have the ability to provide the necessary relaxation and rest to the organism, to improve its defense system, while favouring the improvement of body joints and helping skin repair and antiageing. The beneficial effects they bring to the body are recognized by doctors and physiotherapists who prescribe visits to the spa.

Fortuna’s thermal baths.

Fortuna is another city northeast of Murcia, famous for the properties of its hot springs and its spa centre. Known since antiquity, the Leana Spa, is one of the oldest in Spain and one of the most charming. With more than 40,000 visits a year, Fortuna is earning a name as a tourist destination as the city becomes an important center of hydrotherapy, beauty treatments and other therapies associated with hot natural mineral water.

Birdwatching in Region of Murcia

If you are a lover of nature and you are looking for activities far from the most touristic destinations, the Region of Murcia offers you very original experiences that you can turn into a hobby. One of them is birdwatching. Throughout the entire territory of Murcia you can find natural spaces where you can watch birds in their intact habitat, always under ethical premises and strict control so as not to damage the visited spaces.

Undoubtedly, one of the great ornithological attractions of the Region is monopolized by the marine environment, with numerous islands and islets, open spaces and cliffs where you can see endless birds, both marine and terrestrial. Also, the interior wetlands and salt lakes show a great wealth of species that use it as a migratory passage or place to stay for the winter.

Approaching any of the observatories of the San Pedro del Pinatar Park can be a unique experience for the sighting of water birds that populate the area. There, accompanied by an environmental guide will be discovered through observation, numerous species of birds, including the colorful flamingo and the common shelduck, and limestone species such as the redshank, the dabchick, the European shag, etc.

Among the places and spaces to observe birds in the Region, stands out the Regional Park of Sierra Espuña, where the golden eagle, the golden owl, the eagle, the griffon vulture, the hawk, the Cornish chough and the stone-curlew can be spotted, the Wetland of the Ajauque and Rambla Salada with its variety of different environments, which explains the great diversity of birds - mallard, grey heron, common reed bunting, Cetti's warbler and steppe birds such as Eurasian stone curlew, crested lark, Montagu's harrier and lesser whitethroat. Another point of special interest is the Lagunas de Campotéjar. In this wetland there are water species such as the white-headed malvasia, the common stork and the Western swamphen. Also striking are the Llanos del Cagitán, one of the few places in Spain where to observe the Dupont’s lark, and the Saladares de Guadalentín whose most interesting species for observation are the black-bellied sandgrouse, the little bustard, the grey heron, greater short-toed lark , the Eurasian blackcap and the stork.
